At the beginning of 2010, I realized that finishing my personal documentary Home Unknown was going to take much more work than I could handle . Up until this point, I had been fairly successful serving as a one man film crew. On my own I had come up with the idea, raised some money from generous relatives, purchased equipment and shot the film. But taking 100 hours of footage and shaping it into a compelling documentary is no easy task, especially for an individual. So I started looking for help.

The first thing I did was to email my Filipino filmmaker friends from NYU. That’s how I got in touch with A.J. Calomay, a Fil-Am editor an all around great guy. Through A.J. I learned about FAN, the Filipino American Network. Although I’ve only been to one FAN event so far, I’ve got to say that I’m excited. Here I was looking for Filipinos to connect with, and along comes this group looking to connect Filipinos with each other. Simply beautiful.

This Wednesday FAN’s holding a speed networking event for Filipinos in the entertainment industry. I’ll definitely be there and will report back on how it goes.
